Looking for a new day pack to replace my old Rocky ( cheapo ) backpack. Picked up a barely used Badlands 2200 in the classifieds last week but after using it yesterday shed hunting it's to big for my liking , so it's going back in the classifieds.  Trying to stay around 1800 cu in. So that leads me to the Badlands stealth , a Tenzing tc1500 or maybe an Eberlystock x2. Anyone using one of these ? Any opinions. Thanks Allen

Of those I like the x2.  Kifarus redesigned spike camp is a good option too.  Tarryall comes with 23" stays.

I used the x2 last hunting season.  It was comfortable but I'm thinking of going a different direction this year.  It does squeak slightly though from the bag rubbing on the frame.  I liked the fact it has a frame to carry more weight than my badlands hybrid I used the year before.

I use a KUIU ultra 3000 as a day pack. If you want smaller the 1800 ultra would be a good choice.

And On sale you can get a 3000 bag for a backup for about $70.  For extended trips you can get the beefier icon pro waist belt and straps on sale for $93. As a day pack i like the lighter ultra gear set.

I have been looking hard at this pack. Just not sure if I would like a framed pack ? Can you run just the shoulder , waist and bag without the frame ? I just hate buying things without trying them on, ( that's where I'm at with the Badlands 2200 I just bought. Thought I would like it but not really )  plus I'm confused on there options  . When  Kuiu's site says full kit is that everything frame , shoulder and waist straps and bag ?  What's the Susp only option ?

My pack did the same. I removed the frame and wrapped it with duct tape. Squeak gone

The frame is a carbon fiber x-shaped plate that weighs about 11 oz ?   

Full kit is carbon fiber "frame", the waist strap and shoulder straps ( suspension), and the bag ( 1850 - 3000- or 6000 ),
 For daypack use get the Ultra 3000.  The 3000 bag weighs almost nothing more than the 1850 and uses same frame and suspension.  For extended camping trips get the Icon Pro suspension with the beefier waist belt and shoulder straps.  Works with the ultra frame and bags.

You have to have the frame when using the KUIU pack. I used a badlands 2200 for several years. The KUIU is much better. I just bought the pro suspension for my ultra. I plan on running the pro suspension with ultra bags.

I bought a nimrod last year and I am pretty pleased with it.just bought the pack for day hunts for now and planning on buying the other half soon for multiple day hunts. Not sure why I don't see nimrod name come up more often. They are a local American made product with great service. Maybe I'm missing something which happens often. Nimrod is also competitive priced with other companies.

Honestly, get yourself an Exo Mountain Gear 3500 and you're set. Compresses down to a lightweight day pack and can handle 100 lbs of meat.

Were you elk shed hunting or deer? I like a day pack for size and when deer shedding it works good. But a decent load of elk bone can add up quick. Add some miles or elevation and you may be wishing for more suspension. Just a thought. One of the features i did like about my 2200 when i had it was access to the main compartment without having unload and reload antlers.  Of the packs you mentioned the eberle would be my choice for a "do all".

Yes u can run the pack without the frame. Full kit will come with everything including the bag, frame, and suspension (shoulder straps and belt). If you follow their sizing chart you'll be fine. And their customer service is great if you need to call them. They will help with sizing. I like having the frame. Saves a trip back to to the truck to get your pack frame. Take a quarter out with ya!

Combo deer / elk sheds hunting. It was just the overall size of the pack with the wings and what not. Maybe I will have to give it another try before I give up on the 2200

If you watch the YouTube videos on the packs there a few that will show all the ins and outs of the packs. My icon pro 1850 has plenty of pockets. The biggest is the horseshoe zip to allow full access of anything in the pack at the bottom. I really like it.

The icon pro is basically the bells and whistles package, as far as I understand it. Just some more extras. U won't regret getting one!

For day ise only go ultra. For extended go icon suspension and ultra bags

When you say day use " go ultra" and for extended " icon suspension  and  ultra bags"  ? Care to elaborate?  In my mind your saying" buy both the Icon pro and an Ultra "

If I was just using as daypack I would stick with the ultra. Personally I see no reason to go smaller than the 3000.  Just the bag is the difference and its minimal.  Yes when packing out 80+ pounds of game it would be nicer to have the icon pro heavier belt and straps but is it worth having them all the time when your just packing a sandwich , kill kit, water and jacket?   If you want to pack your camp then definitely icon pro suspension.   You could get by with the 3000 bag though its snug for camping. The 1850 no way.  I started with ultra 3000, packed a couple yukon moose out with it over 5 miles worked fine. I did find the belt more comfortable over a jacket around my waist so when icon pro suspension came on sale for $93 I picked one up for possible long packs or camping. For day use Im sticking with the comfortable and minimalist ultra throughout.

That's what I'm going to do, I'm selling my current ultra 1800 to my girlfriend then buying a new ultra 1800 and pro suspension...anytime I need more space I swap to a 60 liter dry bag
