Were you elk shed hunting or deer? I like a day pack for size and when deer shedding it works good. But a decent load of elk bone can add up quick. Add some miles or elevation and you may be wishing for more suspension. Just a thought. One of the features i did like about my 2200 when i had it was access to the main compartment without having unload and reload antlers.  Of the packs you mentioned the eberle would be my choice for a "do all".

Combo deer / elk sheds hunting. It was just the overall size of the pack with the wings and what not. Maybe I will have to give it another try before I give up on the 2200

Looking more at the Kuiu packs . What's the difference between the Icon Pro and the Ultra ? Are the bags just one big bag or is the smaller pockets/ pouches to keep gear separated ?

If you watch the YouTube videos on the packs there a few that will show all the ins and outs of the packs. My icon pro 1850 has plenty of pockets. The biggest is the horseshoe zip to allow full access of anything in the pack at the bottom. I really like it.

The icon pro is basically the bells and whistles package, as far as I understand it. Just some more extras. U won't regret getting one!

The icon pro has more padding on the waist belt and the shoulder straps. You can buy these separate for the ultra.  It also has more  compartments in the bags.
For day ise only go ultra. For extended go icon suspension and ultra bags

When you say day use " go ultra" and for extended " icon suspension  and  ultra bags"  ? Care to elaborate?  In my mind your saying" buy both the Icon pro and an Ultra "

For majority of the time the extra padding isn't necessary

Day trip hunts or hikes the ultra suspension works great

Backpack hunts the pro suspension would begin to win over

So buy the Ultra 1800 and buy the pro suspension separate ?

If I was just using as daypack I would stick with the ultra. Personally I see no reason to go smaller than the 3000.  Just the bag is the difference and its minimal.  Yes when packing out 80+ pounds of game it would be nicer to have the icon pro heavier belt and straps but is it worth having them all the time when your just packing a sandwich , kill kit, water and jacket?   If you want to pack your camp then definitely icon pro suspension.   You could get by with the 3000 bag though its snug for camping. The 1850 no way.  I started with ultra 3000, packed a couple yukon moose out with it over 5 miles worked fine. I did find the belt more comfortable over a jacket around my waist so when icon pro suspension came on sale for $93 I picked one up for possible long packs or camping. For day use Im sticking with the comfortable and minimalist ultra throughout.

That's what I'm going to do, I'm selling my current ultra 1800 to my girlfriend then buying a new ultra 1800 and pro suspension...anytime I need more space I swap to a 60 liter dry bag
