Its about that time to start picking morels.  I was able to get some last year for the first time.  When do they typically start growing?

Not where you hunt anytime soon. Still feet of snow at the parking area to the wood bridge.

How long do they stay out.  I've got a 49 degrees tag and plan to hunt over memorial day weekend and week.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Went to a spot on the westside last week week with a buddy and between the 2 of us filled a 5 gallon bucket. They are out. Found some that were already dried up in this spot as well. About 900 foot elevation or so.

Do morels grow in the same place as chanterelles?  Or close to it at all?  I know different season, just asking about location.

On the east side, your best bet is forested areas that burned last year.  On the west side, I mostly found them in mature cottonwood bottoms, but I'm willing to bet there are other places to look.  Just make sure you can tell the difference between false morels and true morels (it's pretty easy, true morels are completely hollow with a single open chamber).
