Tuna in August
« on: April 12, 2016, 11:31:50 PM »
I was just going to ask your input about a tuna charter trip based on your experience. Ilwaco or westport does not matter. I just want to give my wife best bang foe her buck as it will be my birthday present from her. I figure I better get this trip together before she changes her mind. Is one day enough of is it wise to do 2 day trip. Any input is welcome. :)
Happy Hunting and Fishing

I have been going out with chuck Custer on the Freedom for several years. Excellent fishing, awesome crew. Haven't gone out yet and not come back with a full boat of tuna. Chuck and his crew make it a unforgettable experience.

Jim/Epic Adventures (board member) out of Ilwaco will put you on more longfins in one day than you'll know what to do with.

Do an express trip on a 6 pack boat. Avoid the big charters for tuna IMO. Kevin with KC Sportfishing, Todd runs Toddds Extreme Sportfishing, Pat and the Tailwalker crew, All Rivers, The Far Corners crew...you cant go wrong with any of them. Some times I have an open seat for tuna, it depends on the day. I do a lot of last minute trips based on the weather.

When in August do you want to go?. The week of the 10-14th is going to be madness with the Tuna Classic going on. Don't expect to find an available charter that weekend.

I've fished with Mark @ All Rivers a couple of times, and can recommend him without hesitation. The later on August you can go, the better IMHO.

At this point, you might not have many options.  Most good tuna boats fill up early in the year.

A day trip should be plenty for you guys and whatever boat you choose, make sure it's a live bait trip.

:yeah:
I've only done it once, and my arms were so sore from a one day, couldn't imagine 2 days in a row. Not to mention I didn't really feel like chumming more than one day  :chuckle:

Most fun I've ever had on a fishing trip (sea sickness aside). It is intense

Chuck on the Freedom would be a great choice.

Todd's Extreme Sportfishing is awesome charter.  I'm booked for the 14th of August.  Todd was booking fast, and that was when I booked back in February.  Not sure if any spots left, but worth a call.

Check out my website, I have been running out of Ilwaco for years and I have the live bait dialed in I assure you...I had a 38 fish per trip average last year, I carry more live bait than almost any other charter (that I know of), I carry almost 3/4 tote  of ice so fish care is very high priority to me...I only carry 5 anglers (to make more room for fish)..I use some of the best gear available and have a very fast and comfortable boat...my fish boxes hold 40-50 fish depending on size and I am accustomed to coming home full....I am the "new kid on the block" in the charter world but I have been fishing with a crew of guys and strangers for years...you will not be sorry to book with me I assure you.

5 vs 6 guys may not sounds like much difference, but I would definitely appreciate the extra room and 8-10 tuna that represents.
What kind of boat do you run Mark?  No link to your website in your signature line?
