It took me 5 years and thousands of miles but I did it!!
« on: April 15, 2016, 11:17:51 AM »
Shot my first tom this morning. Came in Strutting and putting on the whole show. I've hunted HARD for turkeys the last 5 seasons and always came up short, missed chances, hung up birds, anything that could possibly go wrong always did. It all paid off today tho!!

Congrats!  I hunted solo unsuccessfully for two seasons before killing my first tom in 1992.  I remember that one more vividly than many of the others.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Last summer,  when I went to Bonners Ferry, I got 3 with the truck because they just would get the **** out of the road.
On the way home and traveled through Grand Coulée, got another Tom and a hen.
Salvaged 4 out of 5.

Here's a couple more pics now that I'm back home. What a day, and to think the whole thing lasted about 10 minutes. Was heading to my blind, gobbles came out of the valley below me. I let a few aggressive yelps and my bird and another tom came over the going nuts, I never made it to the blind, sat down and the madness began. I dont think ive ever been so geeked, would like to know how high my heart rate got, I was shakin. So much fun!

Thanks for all the kind words and happy hunting!
