Idaho Toms
« on: April 17, 2016, 04:50:40 PM »
Woke up early on Friday and had a real close call on a tom to start off the morning. Ended up calling two toms into 15 yards at 2:30pm. They came in and put on a good show strutting and drumming the whole way. Shot the bigger of the two, luckily for his buddy there is a one bird/day limit in Idaho, otherwise my season wouldve been done right there. Saturday was pretty quiet with not much action. Today, I slept in and went out around 8:00 am. It was really quiet until 10:00am when a tom gobbled way off in the distance. I slowly worked my way to him and got to about 250 yards away. He stopped gobbling for half an hour and I was thinking about trying to get closer when I noticed him silently sneaking in about 75 yards out. Ended up putting the smack down on him at about 11:30am. The tom I shot today (second pic) had a jake-sized beard but had a full fan and almost  one inch spurs. Must have had beard rot or something. Kind of bummed my season is already over!

Love it! If you could wack 2 in Kittitas county I would have doubled opening day! I guess now I'll start working out to get ready for archery season. Nice birds man!
