Experience with older Mallard travel trailers?
« on: April 19, 2016, 08:33:02 PM »
So I have the opportunity to pick up a clean 1998 Mallard 19N travel trailer for a good price. It is a one owner trailer. The owner is an RV salesman at a local dealership and claims to have taken good care of it.

It will be the wife, myself, two girls (2 years and 6 months old) and a Golden Retriever.

My question is has anybody camped 4 people in a 19 ft trailer? Too small or OK? And my other question is regarding opinions on general quality of the older Mallards. The price is right, so if some of the flooring is worn or the cabinets aren't perfect, I could deal with it.

If we like the whole trailer camping thing, we would probably only keep this trailer for a season or two and then move up to something in the 24 ft range.

Thanks!

Don't know about the quality. But if it has a slide you might be ok for room. If not I think you will be cramped. Unless its a smoking deal. Beings your already considering moving up in size. I would be on the lookout for a 24 or 25 footer. Lots of good deals out here once you get to looking.

No slide, so like you say we may be cramped. This is what I would consider a smoking deal at $2500, but I too wonder if we should just start with the size we will ultimately want to end up with.

I can't say for sure that the rest of the family will enjoy camping though, so might just go with it. If they don't like it, I can keep it for hunting and fishing trips I guess!

build quality seems to be pretty good on the 2 that I own. the mallard name was produced by a couple different manufacturers though if I remember correctly.

19' will be tight on room if you spend a lot of time in the trailer, we don't spend much time in ours, we use it as a bathroom, change room, food prep, and sleeping. we never hang out it in.
