Moses lake, Potholes
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:00:50 PM »
Anyone know if the spawn is over for walleye? Last few times I've tried Moses Lake or Potholes everyone I talked to hadn't had a single bite and not many fish were showing up on the finder.

Yes. Potholes for sure. Kept a couple for dinner last week. Thought they were both males. One turned out to be a spawned out female. Nothing left in the males either. Threw back a couple 26 inchers that were spawned out as well. The males are pretty much dried up at this point, not dripping all over the boat anymore. If there done in potholes then they should be done in moses.

Caught several spawned out females on Roosevelt this weekend. But lots of males thinking my boots are cute still :chuckle: but water temps up to 52 in the afternoon on the arm can't last much longer.

Was out Monday morning on the north end of Moses.  11 boats there and I only saw one bass caught.   I think my next walleye trip will be after the spawn is over and the fish disperse to other parts in the lake.  Post-spawn is easier fishing.

well a few are still spawning, but the majority are done, released a 22 incher today and the boat looked like someone tried to milk a cow in a thimble. None of the rest however were spewing.

Moses Lake is on right now, head up there if you can.  We went over for our trip to Potholes on Friday, fished it and only caught 5 walleye and 1 catfish.  So we decided to drive up to Moses Lake to one of the launches to see if the walleye were on the feed after the spawn, a boat said they caught 4 in 2 hours so we took that as a way better sign and went there Saturday morning.  Ended up keeping 14 walleye, 1 perch, and 1 bullhead and missed just as many fish.  Limited out this morning by 10:30 with about 10-12 missed bites and 3 jumbo perch.  I'm guessing in another 2 weeks or so Potholes should be great.

Fished Sat. They had a bass tourney. I heard the biggest bag was 23lbs.

We fished walleye and got nada.
Wind got pretty bad, so we headed for camp.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I think we were the ones you talked to at the fish cleaning station Saturday. I was the tall son with the sunburn haha. Your pic looks like the guy we were talking to at least.

We fished this last weekend also.  Only one walleye and 4 smalls all weekend.

Sunday the wind really picked up  and blew us off the water. 2 foot wind waves with caps every 2 seconds makes for a not so fun boat ride  :bdid:

Camped at the state park.

I know how you feel, last time I was out there I was beaten up so hard it knocked my fuel line off the engine (and those things are clamped on solid ) so it quit in the middle of the lake and I had to use the minnkota to get to shore to troubleshoot. Luckily it was $65 for a prop and not my life that I had to pay for that one. I'll chalk it up as lesson learned.

Looks like I will get to head out on Moses tomorrow, thinking of staying south? I heard fishing was good north last week....hmmm...decisions, decisions. Maybe I will just have to try both areas...

I have never tried way north before. If I take my boat that far up there I might as well trailer to the wdfw and take my fly rod and stop by rocky ford if nothing is happening for walleye.
