Ok so we have had the opener come and go.
Just how many of you have had your hat handed to you by something that has a brain the size of a walnut?

It took me many years of not harvesting birds to get good at turkey hunting. I have been doing very well for many years now. I still get my hat handed to me from time to time :chuckle:

They seem henned up to me. Come off the roost and go silent.  Not respond to anything.  Most of the toms we saw were either on the side of the highway or on private property.   We had great setups just nothing where we thought they would be.

LOL I even did a seminar myself on the 10th.  Did everything I said to do but the problem was that I had never been in that area except for on a fire.  We learned some good intel.

Had a "pea brain" remind me of a very important lesson yesterday..SIT STILL! and be aware of your surroundings before you move a muscle. Had one sneak in on me all quiet like. Caught me pulling on my gloves. I looked up and there he was across the draw watching me. BUSTED! He hung around briefly then melted back into the hills. STUPID BIRDS  :chuckle:

That's why I find each and every turkey season fun.  Just when you think you are an expert they make you look silly.  I would MUCH rather kill a bird that is tough than to yelp a few times and have to shoot one before it runs me over.  The one I got this past Saturday was one of the most satisfying birds I have shot in a long time.  Took nearly an hour to bring him in.  Awesome experience!

Every year bring a new beginning. It is great to whack a bird in your first few hours of your hunt. But it's all about the experience of teaching others in the field, with in which we love. A harvest is a bonus

With almost a month into the season some folks have been handed their hat and shown the door.
