Kayak fishing
« on: April 21, 2016, 12:34:17 PM »
Anyone kayak fishes around Tri-Cities (Richland) area?
I just purchased a kayak and thinking of doing some fishing. I was thinking of fishing around Bateman Island, mostly for small mouth bass.

Anyone has any tips or experiences?

Thanks,
Sergey

I love fishing out of kayaks. Make sure you are well organized. I have my rods already rigged up because it is more difficult while out on the water.  Not sure what type of kayak you have but the one I use has rod holders in the back and and bungy cords in the front and the back.  I tie down my tackle box to one of the bungy cords so if I flip the kayak I won't loose all my gear. Make sure you use sunscreen, made that mistake two weeks ago and really paid the price.  Get yourself a 3 1/2 pound anchor , if you don't have an anchor you will do more rowing than fishing. Bring a water bottle.  Plenty of places to use it in the tri cities. Bateman island might still be too muddy right now with all the water pushing through the Yakima river. I fished after work today out of a kayak and caught eight smallies. My buddy caught ten this evening. Really enjoyable way to fish when the wind is calm.

Thanks for the tips. I have Pelican 130T. My plan is to launch off at the Columbia Point and fish from there all the way to 240 bridge on the Yakima.
