I gave him a good sniff w/my certified and recently calibrated blacktail sniffer and this is not a mule deer, this is not a whitetail deer - this is a columbia blacktail deer and if you doubt me... consider this he is w/in a two hour drive of Portland OR  - just so long as you are traveling betw midnight and 04:00 and there isn't any traffic.

All kidding aside, he is not that far from where I am currently sitting typing this.

Looks like a BT to me? Still packin or was this taken a while ago? The similar buck by my house already has 4-6 inches of new growth.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

That was a couple months ago.  Forgot I had them - I have not seen him in a few weeks

Who knows?  Maybe this year he'll put on a bunch of mass and grow the tines out more.  I don't think there's any hope for improving the inside spread though.

Nice buck JD. He's a shooter every day of the week for most hunters.  He doesn't seem to be the wily old buck I envision when I think of big old Blacktails though.   He's more likely 100% nocturnal only for sleep, then wakes up to eat the neighborhood weeds in the sunshine every morning.  Must not be too much hunting pressure in your hood.

A tree stand on that nearby utility pole should do the trick nicely.
