My 9 years olds first hunt
«

Pretty proud of my kid. He just passed hunters ed with a 70 out of 75 April 3rd. He's nine and reaaaaalllly wanted to go turkey hunting!
First morning I was able to call in 3 nice Toms. He patiently waited until they made it to the dec and BOOM! BOOM! He boom flopped it at 10 yards with his Saur 20 gauge. He and grandpa both filled their tags. His first hunt ever and he gets a pretty good Tom. The fan was a little tore up but has a nice beard just shy of 9 inches. Im guessing grand daddy tom might have taken one or two off of him. I had to explain to him it doesn't always go like this!
I went in blind on this one and it payed off.

He loves it. He tagged along as a spectator last year when I called in 3 toms. He got to sit up front next to grandpa when he shot it so he was prepared. It was awesome. We located them right away in the morning and snuck in to about 200 yards of where I could hear them. It was hilly and they were over a couple small fingers. I called at them for about 20 minutes, I could hear them pop up on top then drop back down in the bottoms. Only visual I had is when they popped out about 40 yards and were racing in putting on a show. No blind, land anyone can hunt and second week of the regular season. He got to experience the real deal, with all 3 generations.

Wow, what a great memory and great birds. I know how proud you are, as I've been there and done that before with family.

What a feeling as a grandparent.I'm so proud of him and his dad. With his patience and determination I think he's going to become one heck of a hunter. Looking forward to spending the rest of my hunting years with these two as hunting partners.
