I heard about that fish in early March while fishing Rock Lake with a buddy.   Spent a lot of time on that lake and heard a lot of fish stories.   :chuckle:

I know the guy holding the fish.

It's a German brown. Not a common brown trout

And the difference between the two is???

I believe, if I remember correctly, a Common Brown has halos around some of the spots and will have spots on the adipose fin, German Browns just has black and brown spots without any halos and no spots on the adipose. I think????? lol

german brown is spotted and a common brown isn't. Used to catch common Browns in Reno.  They look like a rainbow with pale colors and no spots

It's a German brown. The guy lives in Colfax who caught it. I didn't realize who it was until mossy posted the pic of him. I'll get an actual weight for ya but it seems to be more like a 19lb fish at most. Still a once in a lifetime German brown if ya ask me!

Maybe the pic just doesn't show it very well but that does not look like a German Brown or a Brown, at all, to me.

Got the word it was actually 17.2lbs. Browns look a lot different coming from very cold deep water than they do a river or during spawning seasons. From the picture, if thats where he caught the fish, the water is 300+ deep. Notice the color differences in a lake vs. river brown.

Definitely a brown trout, either German or otherwise. If they aren't in their spawning colors, they can be very silvery with subdued spotting. That's a very common coloration for them.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
