Wyoming Deer app question.
« on: May 16, 2016, 05:13:42 PM »
When I was buying my application, there was a non res, full price with point option. In the past, I just bought the full price. What's the difference in these 2 options? I thought points had to be purchased separately in Sept :dunno: Any info appreciated.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the point goes towards next year's drawing if you don't draw your unit.  It does not count towards the current years draw.

Correct. More to the point if you draw choice #2 or #3 you'll still get your point for next year. Points are only drained if you draw your first choice.

Thanks for the clarification. I have never bought a point before. That probably explains why I have not drawn the last 3 times I've applied. So if I don't draw this year I will have a point for next year?
I'm excited for mid June results!

once upon a time, you didn't need any points to draw Region H. It's a whole new world we live in now. I'll be getting points every year now!

If you are just doing regular probably take a couple points to get H. Special might get it with 1.

Yeah. Or you could simply wait until July and buy the point then. Doing it now is just a convenience thing so that if you don't draw, the point is automatically added. Depending on the year and the unit, some will be 100% draw for 1st choice, and have a few that get burned on 2nd and 3rd choice applicants, but none will be available for leftovers. So you could go to the last few years draw tables and look at hunts that should take way more than what you expect to draw and then put in for a semi decent unit on #2. That's what I did in 2014 (see below). Just keep in mind that there are a few random winners in the 1st choice pool as well--it ain't all about points.

I have a buddy with a cabin west of Daniel in unit 142 so we prefer to hunt fairly close. Region H is a large general area but is not easy to pull. I love the diversity of country. The most beautiful country on earth!
