Well as we all know this has been an absolutely miserable winter and now beginning  to our spring in regards to weather. I went and scouted near loon lake three weeks ago. There was still a lot of snow and there hasn't been much warmth since then. How are the forest roads looking? Where is the snow line over there currently? Have the birds finally started to retreat up the hills?

Snow has melted considerably from 3 weeks ago but still deceptive higher up as shady areas still have significant drifts.  Not so much the snow as just the water runoff. Some smaller roads around have turned into streams and any low area is now a pond. Have to be carful even on some of the gravelled roads as the runoff has washed spots and turned them into slippery mud holes.  Went over Hunters Springdale road yesterday morning and it was only 27 degrees at the summit. I'm still seeing a lot of big flocks of birds but they are breaking up quickly and definitely in full mating mode. I haven't seen a lot of birds up higher yet but it's the time of year where that can change quickly. Better dress warm and be carful where you go

Thanks, I'm not to worried about driving the roads because I will just walk most of them. Amazing how many guys drive right by birds. But yeah the amount of standing water when I was over there was ridiculous. The earth can't absorb another drop, yet it just keeps coming. Most everything I hunt is under 2700 feet, hopefully those birds are starting to trickle up the hills by saturday. Thanks for the update

Geeze-snowing today. Not much but an inch or two and very wet.  This seems to be the unending winter.  Anyone heading to the NE this weekend better dress warm and expect wet, wet and more wet.  Roads certainly don't need any more moisture and forecast is for on and off rain/snow mix all week.
