Oh, you didn't hear the sarcasm?  But to expand would be to say ya, there is a very distinct difference between the West and East side of the state.  A difference that needs no explanation really, yet it is true that a "westsider" can be at the same level as an "eastsider". To speak to the OP, I to am very thankful you are OK.

A good reason not to have a two bird limit on the same day.  Although rare, it causes accidents like this and to a larger extent causes crippled birds.  :twocents:

Dan, I completely agree with you.  I've hated that rule since it was put in place, but then again, there is a lot about the turkey management philosophy of the current WDFW that I don't like.

OK, I'm not trying to start an east vs. west battle here, that's already a tune that we've heard on this forum before.
I had to file a report with F&G since it was a gunshot wound. We re-visited the exact location where the accident took place and they got evidence, pics, GPS cord's and pellets. They even took the pellet removed from my cheek for evidence, but I will get that back.

I don't think he intended to mean don't hunt up hill.  He's saying don't go chasing after turkeys blasting at them.  You never know where a guy may be set up working the birds you are shooting at.

If you are sat against a tree calling a turkey TO YOU, then you aren't going to shoot someone.  Unless they are trying to sneak into the bird and you don't see them.  Moral of the story, don't stalk turkeys, don't chase turkeys.  Locate, work em in, and shoot em.  That way nobody gets shot in the face.

I would love to be using this thread in our next hunter education class.

Sorry it happened but hopefully lots of new hunters could learn a valuable lesson from your experience.

Your x-ray would be famous.

Let me know if I can use the story and x-ray.

Rainier - yes you can use this story and x-ray. If it prevents just one person from getting into a bad situation, that would be good. If it saves somebody's eyesight, that would be good. If it saves a life, that would be even better. My wife never wants me to hunt again. Turkey hunting is my passion and I so look forward to opening day. I've got years worth of successful turkey hunting pics, but this years pics are x-rays and the ER visit.

You mean I shouldn't use the T-Shot? Good to know!  :chuckle:
