Bigger is better. Try and find a shrimp condo or two. The little ones wholesale has don't shrimp that well. Big bait canister areas means more bait= more scent.
Lots of weight also. I generally use 12-15 lb downrigger balls in my pots so they stick where you drop them. Drifting pots don't catch shrimp. Spend time using your sonar to find shrimp clouds. I generally find the clouds, drop the pot and watch the shrimp follow the pot down, pretty cool to watch. Then the pot comes up full first drop, generally 180-220 per pot, sometimes close to 300.
Oily bait is key. Salmon skin, tuna, mackerel , trout all do well. I have a custom mix that took a couple years to perfect.
