Clemans Bighorn Herd
« on: May 02, 2016, 12:15:35 PM »
Saturday wife and I went up to Bumping.  Coming back we see a truck pull off the road downstream of the Horseshoe Bend.  Looked over (highway side of the river) and here's a sheep on the hill.  Dynamited the brakes and pulled over to watch.  Started looking....there's 5, there's one more, there's two more.  Eventually got up to over a dozen.  Then the wife goes look over there, here's 15 more.  So grand total we saw about 30 sheep.  No big rams, I forgot the binos so was going by what I saw on the camera screen.  Did see quite a few younger sheep.

They've been hanging out there all spring. Hikers pushed the majority of the ewes out of waterworks, so they've been mainly using east Sanford and Sanford for lambing season.

Next time you are up there, look for the sheep that like to hang out north of the highway between squaw rock and gold creek.

Same with between mp 105 and 110.

I've seen a bunch of ewes and couple banana rams hanging out in rock Creek area. Got about 30 yds from the ewes before they winded me.  Nice to see them spreading out.
