Elk bonanza
« on: April 06, 2007, 07:02:34 AM »
I had the best day ever elk shedding yesterday.  They were dropping everywhere.  I basically watched several bulls drop.  I actually didn't see the antlers fall, but one minute the elk would be walking with a pair of antlers and the next minute they would be missing them.  I found 15 elk sheds and two deer.  What  a day.  I'm a hurting unit, and there are tons of bulls left out there still packin and shedding.  I'll get some pics up as soon as possible.

Are those east side or west side bulls?

Timing is everything.  Last weekend I walked till my knees ached. I always wonder how many I miss.  It does help when a guy sees a bull with and then without.  I'm glad there are so many branch antlered bulls in that country.  Happy you found so many.  I've never found that many in one day.  I would have gotten tired and headed back to the truck.  I love that area and I wish I lived closer.
Oh yeah, I watched two bulls, five points, fight each other for fifteen minutes and everything looked solid on their heads.  I searched for the match to the big antler I found, but came up with nothing.
I keep all the antlers I find and I'm running out of room, so I'm happy with what I've found so far.  I do love hiking around the hills in spring and I won't leave any antlers behind.

This is eastside.  This is the most bull elk I have ever seen.  Last season was nasty for the hunters and it shows.  I've never seen so many spikes.  I hear you on the knees hurt part.  In fact I was going to be shedding this whole weekend, but I figured I'd just visit with my Dad and enjoy my success.  Let others have a good day.

Here was the first one that fell off right in front of me.

I wish they were all this easy.

I wish I would have found the match to this one.

this was a hawg 5 point.  No match :'(

Here's the first BIG match set I found

another match.  it was behind the brus patch just behind it.  the second picture was taken through the brush from where I picked the first one up.

I'm wishing now that it had satisfied my appetite.  I'm itching to go out again.  I bet many of them have been scooped by now though.
