Barrier egg cure
«
on:
May 04, 2016, 07:24:04 PM »
So I've been fishing barrier and it seems the only people who are catching any fish are those who have a cure of there own. I've experimented with a couple of my own but no luck. Any recipes that people know of that are proven winners?

It's not the cure as much as it is the quality of the roe. The stuff you can buy in the store is taken from fish caught in the salt, and the roe is not "ripe" yet. The closer the fish is to spawning the more oil is in the roe, and the oil is what gets 'em. If you don't have eggs from last fall you are going to have to find someone willing to part with some, or try sand shrimp.

Never used it myself.

Pro cure makes a egg oil sent.
Caught one yesterday side planing a cut plug herring with garlic bloody tuna.
I've had some luck using wizard an pro glow 50/50 mix couple pinchs of sea salt an a tea spoon of anchovie powder. I'd like to try some of the food pellets from the hatchery ground up an add that to the mix.
Wish I knew what those guys are using too some of them are killing it

The cowlitz does not give fish up easily. Don't expect to get much eggs from a springer if you catch a hen. Just keep fishing and watching what other people do. If you ask enough people someone will sell you some good eggs i bet.
Hit it hard in the fall and put some eggs away for spring.

I got 17 springer's last year. I have five this year so far. I am going to have trouble reaching that number.
Look at what others are using and catching fish. I worked and earned my method so I don't give that information up. But I go down there with a plan and be flexible.

i've always done really well with beau mac's pro glow. it's my favorite egg cure.
never understood why people are so secretive about their cures, "it's the indian not the arrow".
just keep in mind that springers(and salmon in general) can be pretty moody about when they want to bite. nothing is ever a sure bet.

My go to there for years has been plain BORAXO cured eggs. Semi firm. If the bite dies sprayem down with WD40.

The dams above the barrier produce power and the fish are headed to them.
Add electrons to your bait.

I get my cure mix from a buddy. He buys the ingredients in bulk and separates them by weight. He gives me bags of it, but won't tell what's in it. It works.
Lot of individuals use various items to spruce up bait or add when they milk up to be absorbed into the eggs.
Ex. Brown Sugar, sodium sulfite, white sugar, sodium bisulfide, anise oil, slam-ola powder, sardine, shrimp, DMSO, garlic, Noniodized salt, cherry flavored kook-aid, borax, quick cure, tuna scent, pro cure, pro glow, TNT cure, Amermans Egg Cure, honey, various bait colors. You name it and I've tried it over the years.
Some eggs fish well with certain scents lower in the river and require different additives the longer they have been in fresh water. Just don't buy the vacuum packed bags of roe you see. Spend the money to get good eggs or cure eggs right away. When I would catch a hen, I would cut the eggs out right away and throw them in a bag and place in a cooler.

I was there Friday afternoon. Didn't get there till around 3 and fished till 7 not a single bite. I was up on the rocks and people were catching them left and right next to me. Same exact setup as me so I know it's a cure specific thing. Were you on the rocks or out in the water?
