Moses lake cats?
« on: May 06, 2016, 11:57:39 AM »
Never fished for cats so I have no idea what I'm getting into. My buddy and I got a wild hair to try fishing for cats. If anybody has any info they would like to share threat would be great!

Worm off the bottom way back  in the potholes. Caught some so big I've stopped swimming in that spot.

Ducks are not hard to hit, they are just easy to miss.

Night crawlers work, chicken livers are better. Don't know if the sell stink bait here, but that also works. I always did my best tight lining with  a 1/0 hook or similar trebel and an 18" drop so the bait sits just above the bottom. 1/2 oz or better depending on depth.  Also bobber and shallow water works too, depends on the water temp. All my experience is with Midwestern cats but they aren't hard to figure out.

Back where I come from, catfishing was my favorite.  I would use chicken livers, old clams or old mussels.  Just hit a grocery store and ask for clams and mussels that have already opened.  Then use thread to wrap them on your hook.  I always fished directly on the bottom and would tie a glow stick about a foot or two away from my bait.  Worked like a charm.  One day I will get into it again, here in Washington.

Yep.  Light attracts fish.  especially bottom fish.  It did where I used to fish at.  Don't know bout here in Washington.  Hell, I don't even know if that would be legal here.
