The first day or two they were pretty active. Filled my tag the second day on a satellite bull. Then the rains came and that was pretty much the off switch.

The woods were noisy as heck with bugles and cow calls until almost noon the week after archery season where I was hunting.  The elk were way farther off the beaten path but we still got in close and got quite the show.  Bulls chasing cows and satellites running in and out of the group getting chased out by the big herd bull.

I think muzzy still has a pretty good season.  A bull tag with muzzy would be awesome.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Opening weekend for the muzzleloader season was incredible where we were at. I've never heard so many bugles coming from multiple bulls in one valley. Cows were chirping like mad. It was awesome! Never got a good enough look at any of the spikes up close for a shot, but we did fill a cow tag. Chased elk all weekend. That's what it's all about.

The area I go is very quiet, last year heard one bugle.  The increase in archery and then significant increase in muzzy has made it like an early modern opener.  We have talked about looking at a different area and will start scouting plan D and Ethis summer.

Called two big bulls within 60 yards the afternoon before muzzy season.   :bdid:  They were there the next morning but way smarter.   >:(

After spending bow season in the deep woods I was definitely in rut during muzzleloader season.

The elk are not in rut during muzzy season  :chuckle:

I heard about 15 bugles opening morning. That was in the whole 10min we hunted. I had that bull in my buddies face and game over.

Weird.  Almost like someone educated them right before the season opened!

It was by total accident  :chuckle:. Never muzzy hunting before we were really just scouting area we used to rifle hunt and trying to get an idea of if there were elk in the area. By bad luck both spots we stopped to call a bull was within 100 yards and came charging in. Needless to say we went silent the rest of the way back to camp.
