Certainly gets a lot of pressure in places. It is a small Wilderness area. In most areas it is only about 5 miles from the roads to timberline. Also remember that the east side is on the Yakama Indian Reservation.
Last year's fire wasn't in the wilderness it was on the Rez.
What do you mean by federal highways involved?
That's not necessarily the case. I know the USFS has brought in the federal highway commission on a lot of their roads that washed out for the purpose of getting their advice on how to fix the problem. They are more experienced and deal with these issues a lot.
The state was up there monitoring it before it was washed out.
