New Grand Field Champion.... Again!
« on: May 16, 2016, 03:24:45 PM »
In the fall of 2014 I got a call from my trainer telling me my little Brit had won the 1hr All Age trial out in Missouri against 45 other dogs.  I was stoked since she had taken 2nd about three weeks prior against 40 dogs.  Those two placements gave her enough points to finish her Grand Field Champion title for the AKC.  Unfortunately I found later that they didn't register the trial as a Grand stake, even though it was a 1hr trial. All that excitement went for not since the win didn't count toward the Grand title, even though it was a 1hr trial.  For the next year and a half I pulled my hair out as my pup came close to finishing, but couldn't get that 1hr win in a Grand stake.  Luckily, the wait is finally over.  I just got the Certificate from the AKC stating that she is finally a Grand Field Champion.  This time she beat 38 dogs in Nebraska, and the stake was registered as a Grand stake.  To achieve the GFC title a dog has to obtain the FC title, and then get 6 points in GFC stakes, including at least 1 win in a 3 point or better stake.  To achieve the FC title a dog can run in 1/2hr or 1hr stakes, but the Grand title has to be achieved in 1hr stakes only.   In the Brit world, the GFC title is pretty darn hard to achieve since most of the Grand trials are also American Field trials, and they draw large entry's, with multiple Pros.   I'm pretty proud of my pint size roanie.

Thanks guys.  I'm proud of her accomplishments, and Im also happy the AKC created a title to recognize the dogs competing in 1hr trials.  With the exception of Amateur stakes, my pup only competes in 1hr trials.  Prior to the Grand title, the only way to tell How well a dog competed in 1hr trials would be to look at their American Field titles.  The problem with that is not all 1hr trials are dual sanctioned in the Brit world.  This was my pups 4th 1hr win, but she's only a 1x AF Champion and 3xRUCH.  If All her 1hr placements had been dual sanctioned, she would be a 4xCH and 6xRUCH, so I'm a big fan of the AKC recognizing the 1hr trials.
