What do you call a Britt/Coyote cross?
« on: May 16, 2016, 08:25:50 PM »
serious question  :o

My britt is having her 2nd heat cycle and never got to the diaper drippy phase and I see coyote tracks all around her enclosure.  I know 100% that no other dogs have been around and she hasn't been out.  A coyote could vault the electrified fence, didn't think about that.

Would a coyote cross with a domestic this time of year?  I always thought coyote males sort of had a 'rut' season and was mostly shut down the rest of the year

Maybe I better get her the k9 morning after pill  :chuckle:

Id assume the coyotes "rut" season would be purely dictated by when the females go into heat.  I cant imagine a male coyote passing up an opportunity on a bitch in heat no matter the time of year.

broyte

and canines find a way, when they want there are no seasons.  I would go get her a shot but that's just me.  I have owned a few coydogs over the years and they are not for the average dog owner. If you like a critter that is totally free agent and has some feral tendencies and doesnt really take commands like sit, wait, down etc then maybe, if you dont like cats you really wont like coycritters.

They would be coy dogs, male coyotes will breed any chance they get.  Bet they make great hunting dogs but prob won't be very good pets and prob won't be very farm friendly(chicken killer) I've seen it happen before with a lab.

Pretty sure coyotes mate whenever. If there is any regulation in their reproduction I think it's on the females' part.

I have heard of dogs getting the deed one, with results, through chain link so it's possible.

For sure a male yote will breed when ever they get a chance. I have seen several coydog litters over the years. There was one year a female yote had a litter from what we think was a German shepherd. The pups were brown and blk in color. Pretty crazy suff.
