Guess they were black rocks, duh.  :chuckle:  How big was the long you landed? Ling cod and Cabezon are some of the best eating fish  NIce job getting it done from shore.

I didn't know you can fish them from shore. I guess some guys get them off the north jetty. What do you do? Do you have a setup that you can cast long distance with?

We went out on a charter out of Westport last Friday. We had 10 black rock fish each and ended up with 1 ling for each guy. It was the first ling I have caught. It wasn't very big but it was real tasty.
We did catch a few canary rockfish too. They are pretty fish but we couldn't keep them. The deck hand said that next year they are going to let fishermen keep one.

We have been doing pretty good on the surf perch this last week. Would like to fish for some lings too.

So far I have put in about 30 hours in learning how to do it.  I still suck at it.

Once I can consistently get it done I will be happy to share but I think I would just give you bad advice.
