I contacted them last year via phone and it was explicitly told to me "NO Spring Bear Hunting is Allowed."  It is open for turkey hunting and fall bear.

Well that seems incredibly stupid.  Did you get a reason?  Ive seen nothing about that in the regs

I did not ask for a reason.  I let them know that their "Pamphlet" found at the enterance is a little confusing.  One part of it is very clear and the next sentence is very unclear.....that is why I called.  Someone else can call to confirm what was told to me.  Maybe the guy I talked to (one of the enforcement officers) missinformed me....though I tend to believe him.

If its closed to spring bear they need to say that in the regs.  I think a lot of guys from outside the area go there to hunt not knowing anywhere else.  Might change some guys app choices if the regs stated that.  Its bs

Here is the link the official site of the refuge.  It is not 100% clear in this definition under hunting.  I called because it says hunting is open durring the spring turkey season (which implies you can hunt from April 15th to May 31).....well spring bear goes till June 15th so I was confused.  I 100% agree that is is confusing at best and nowhere does it state "NO SPRING BEAR HUNTING" but it also does not say "OPEN TO SPRING BEAR HUNTING."  All I can report is what was told to me.   :dunno:

"The Refuge is open for hunting during the Spring turkey season and from September 1 through December 31. The Refuge is closed to all pursuit and hunting of game or discharge of firearms at all other times."

It doesnt say open to turkey hunting, it says open to hunting during spring turkey season.  I want to put that as my 1st choice spring bear hunt next year and hunt there.  Let them make a case out of it.  Theyll lose.
