Should I Shoulder Mount Him?
« on: May 27, 2016, 01:13:16 PM »
I harvested this buck back in 2013, and dont ask me what i was thinking at the time, but I didn't shoulder mount him :dunno: :bdid: Turned out to be the 6th biggest blacktail fork horn of all time in washington... So my question is, do you guys think I should take the cape off a future blacktail buck I harvest and use it to mount him??

Looks awesome as is...the value of the trophy is the same if its a shoulder mount or a euro...take that money and put it towards future hunts with your son

And someday I can use the money for hunts with a son, Im only 16 right now, but you put it perfect, the mount doesnt affect the memories! Thanks!

Whoops sorry bout that ! ...either way save the money for something else...just don't blow it all on fast cars and women...or do... :chuckle:

It's an awesome trophy, definitely a rare duck...but i highly doubt youl think more of it if it was presented differently....

Beautiful buck and trophy!!  You can mount it anytime.....10 years from now.....if you want.  It would look good in on a nice cape with a wall pedestal.

  • The trophy is in the hunt; the animal is a bonus!

Nice buck!  I have two bucks that have almost exactly the same horn structure as your buck only both are mule deer.

Thanks for all the comments! Just wnated to hear others inputs.. Probably down the road I will do a pedestal mount on him, if a harvest a buck with a nice enough cape for the job. Thanks for all the positive feedback!

I'm not sure who taught you to hunt but if you got that bad boy and the one in your avatar I would like to sign up for lessons!

That is a bruiser and yes, mount him another time when it feels right

For now I'd save your money. Once you start getting mounts don't, you'll need to make sure you have room for them. the euro looks great. Someday if you decide to do a pedestal mount you might be able to get a cape from the taxidermist.
