Methow Valley 2k16
« on: June 01, 2016, 09:27:49 PM »
Hello! I am an archery hunter and have thought about going to methow valley to shoot a mature mule buck. So far I am planned to be there on the first 3 days of September, but am really unsure what I am working with. Is it easy to tag out there? I heard there is a fair amount of deer, just unsure what a hunters perspective on that valley is like. any tips or tricks anyone is willing to share? Anything helps. Thanks.

Heck, there's a guy on here that it doesn't even take 3 days to bag a trophy with his bow with the dates you mentioned.

So are you saying I only need to be there one day? http://hunting-washington.com/smf/Smileys/default/chuckle.gif

Depends if your hunting private property or not.  Lots of private that you will see shooters on, but no access.  Lots of open area where your chances of being spotted are high.
High winter kill this year coupled with a good harvest in 2015, you may have your work cut out for you!   Scout, scout, scout!
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Scout the rivers. Find a good crossing in between private alfalfa "anything deer like" fields. Sit and wait. You'll get one for sure if your not picky.

I hunt private land during the bow season and I can almost always get into legal deer. If you're looking for a big buck it's a great area for it if you can get access or are willing to hunt the hills and locate where they are coming down to the fields in the valley to feed.

There is alot of pressure on the roads like most areas but if you get into the woods off roads and trails you can get into some great spots. If you want an outfitter I can recommend one who will do a drop camp in a couple of REALLY good areas on horseback. Did it a few years ago and can't wait to do it again.

Three days isn't gonna do it for you unless you know where your mature deer is currently living. I would go there every weekend up until the season to scout. I know that whole area quite well. If you want the mature monster, you need to get up high or know private land owners who will let you hunt their land. And Jpmiller is correct about a guide. If you have the money have Aaron Lee drop you off in the Pasayten Wilderness.

Lol! If he can anyone can. Right?

Going into new country and bagging a mature deer is a tall order anywhere in this state. if you have a lot of money, I've heard that you can pay landowners a large sum of money to shoot a large trophy that has been tamed.

I'm guessing to bag a mature mule deer you're going to have to spend quite a bit of time scouting and getting into the back country or get really lucky.

Aaron with early winters outfitters is who I was talking about as well. An absolute first rate service.

Least amount of deer I've seen since the bad winters of like 06. Drove Brewster to Winthrop at dusk and did not see a deer. Also have not seen a fawn yet that made it through the winter.... I think it's going to be kinda rough there the next 3-5 years

This herd needs a break... Winter kill, fires and a 2015 huge harvest, has the herd in bad shape :twocents:
