Not In My Wildest Dreams
« on: June 11, 2016, 11:22:32 AM »
Bought some property in the Blues foothills last year and have since captured just about everything on my cellular cams.  List includes lots of whitetails, an abundance of turkeys, occasional Mule deer, several different bears, and a couple cougars.  Although no elk as yet in a picture, I have seen them or seen evidence of them on the property throughout the year.  Last week when I was over getting gravel laid on the new access road to the camping site that I put a trailer on, I got to add a new member to the list.

Got up at 4:50 and went outside around 5:10 to enjoy the morning views and fresh air.  Checked my emails and had a three hits on cellular cam #2 high up on the hill above me.  Opened up the first two and nothing and I thought, oh well, breeze, grass triggering camera.  Opened the third email and I could not believe what I was seeing.  Walked in front of the cam about 20 minutes before I went outside just as it was getting light.  Actually starting laughing outloud in an effort to wake up my son.  Glassed for the next hour but could not find him. Just absolutely unreal.  As a friend said after seeing the picture..." your place is better than Disneyland"  :chuckle:

I second that question. That's a cool idea, specially when its not easy to get out and check your trail cams as much as youd like to

Running HCO/Spartan Verizon/Blackout GoCams.  They also come in IR as well as AT&T, Blackout and IR.  Each camera fee is $5 a month as an additional line on my Verizon account.  There is an HCO Premium Service (i.e. like a cloud) that collects and forwards photos....$36 a year, although they do offer a bare bones free service.

Very pleased so far.  Probably going to get two more as I am selling my other non cellular cams.

Only $5/month per camera?  Considering it costs me easily $100 round trip to check my cameras, that is a steal.  Now, if only there were cell phone reception in my areas!

Yeah, cost saving for sure let alone not constantly going into an area and disturbing it.  Cams initially are spendy at $460, but when you figure gas, time and the fun of constantly seeing picturers on you phone or computer as they happen, makes it worthwhile in my opinion.  My property is 6 hours away, so it's a no brainer for me.

That IS good math. Assuming they don't grow legs on you. My problem is that there isn't sufficient cell phone signal in the areas I hang my cams.

Just be aware if you're trying to get into record books, using cams that have remote viewing or cellular transmission is not fair chase according to Boone and Crockett. That being said if I could afford the initial investment I would put some serious thought into getting one to try.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

Those are pretty neat, how good of cell service do they need?

They say 3 bars for reception, which I had on both until I moved one.  The one I moved now shows one bar and the pictures are equally good.  However I have 5 or 6 Verizon towers a couple miles line of site from me.  Surprised I don't have 4 or 5 bars being that close. :dunno:

If I was interested in getting into the record books, I would not have passed on a true 190-200 class whitetail the very first day of hunting back in 1993 when I drew a Blue Mountain Foothills Late Whitetail permit.  Wanted to stay and hunt for a least a week. :chuckle:
