Not a good unit. I'd skip it.

That's what I put in for too. I applied only because a good friend has a place there and he successfully gets a trophy mulie almost every year during archery. He told me to apply for late buck Sinlahekin rifle, he'd point me the right direction. There's some big boys in there for sure. Good luck, that's a great tag.

Should be any buck I believe, mulie or whitetail, it's almost all mule deer though.

Yup all mulies if you see a whitetail you had better shoot it!

The Quality tag is Any buck, and the "Buck Deer" tag is Any Whitetail Buck...  :twocents:

That's right, any buck is whitetail for that unit. That might be kind of a challenging hunt.

That will be a good tag for sure. I'd try first Salmon meadows area, north to lone frank pass, and in the old burn area.

North of Fish lake, gibson creek area should be a good area as well.

Check your boundaries, because not all of Salmon Meadows is in your unit.

:yeah: Good advice no matter what your tag. Do a search on here from previous years there is good info, some great pictures and will give you a few folks who have HAD the tag to contact nicely and see what they have to share.

Word of advice get involved in the forums on here and you will be amazed at the information that comes your way  :twocents:

My buddy drew the late whitetail tag as well. We are planning to scout a few weekends and then scout and hunt the regular season for a few days to see if we can find some territory he likes.

There's a good thread full of info for this unit that's from 2014 I think. You can find it by searching GMU 215.

I was in the valley poking round 2 weeks ago, all the burn is growing back nice and green with the rain they've had. I saw 3 really nice whities in my travels, all just north of Blue Lake. The buck in my avatar is form the whitetail tag in 2010.

I had that tag a few years back.  I saw bucks every day that were inside their ears, but I was looking for the quality of the big mature ones I had seen in the past while working in the area.  I passed on a giant heavy forked horn in Gibson Creek that was about 28"-30" wide or so, with about 14" forks with pretty long eye guards, probably should have shot it in hind sight. I never did find the one I was looking for, but I could have killed a young 4x4 every day of the hunt. Hunt the last week of the season and do a lot of glassing in the bitter brush, that's a great way to find them.
