Teanaway Quality bull and Alta Quality deer
« on: June 13, 2016, 08:28:02 AM »
Elk hunting for me is something that I have to do its in my blood, hunting elk in the rut is what fuels my obsession, as most people would agree, that's why I moved to central Washington back in 1981, I also like to fish so I purchased  a house with the Yakima river 100 from the back door, I figure get as close to the action as you can it will be a lot easier to be on the river or in the woods doing what make me feel good, being self employed also helps with the ability to take time off when I want to.  My ability at Putting meat in the freezer every fall has been pretty good over the years,  but with one exception I have only taken 1 bull elk in my 40 years of hunting, a spike bull mostly because I am a meat hunter and antlers are nice but not the goal, and I hunt the east side since that's were I live and the country that I know, I'm a shed hunter so I have antlers, a few nice ones, I drew the Quality Peaches Ridge bull tag archery last year along with 2 of my good buddies we set up a camp in the little Naches drainage all three of us 2 wall tents scouted hard think we put on 500 miles just traveling all the logging roads before the season started, we hunted hard I took 11 days off work and they both spent the entire season down there think it was 13 days, we  located a drainage with good timber and no roads into it with a few bulls bugling  and hiked in well before daylight and hiked out well after sun down every day, we had some very close encounters and had some incredible lows as sometimes the elk out smart the hunter, but long story short we ate our tags,  this my sound weird but it was a great hunt because of the experience , we ate like kings had time to unwind and enjoy the days in the field, its the  time away doing what make a person feel good, those things are what you remember, So when my brother called me and said that he drew the Quality Teanaway Muzzy Bull tag I knew what that meant, for like myself he has only taken one bull elk that was a spike, all the years we have hunted, we have always been meat hunters and a nice young tender cow is a trophy to us. I drew the Alta Quality Muzzy Buck tag that starts November 25th I drew the Alta tag about 7 years ago and know it will be a great hunt also. We will be enjoying every moment of this hunting season as a family and with good friends as that's what hunting is about, and with some luck and a little skill will be able share the adventure with the HW gang.

Good luck!  Sounds like you and your team are hunting right.  As the close encounters pile up, I am sure a bull will present a shot!

Good luck filling the tags. More of the bucks taken last year were in the upper part of the unit near Twisp

Yeah, should be a good season for us, only 3 tag holders hunting branch bulls during his hunt so he should be able to tip one over, the challenge will be for him to be able to hold out for a nice one, no predictions or anything just a branch bull would be nice, My deer hunt will be hunting on private property that I have access to, couldn't be more excited.

I spent the day with your nephews yesterday. It was good to see them! I'm so sorry about your niece. I don't have the words to make any of it better. It just sucks!

My grandson drew the August Teanaway rifle cow tag and a youth easy money antlerless deer tag and now his mom wont let him go hunting this year. It just sucks!

I'm super jacked about you and your brothers tags. After all he's been through, I hope you guys put him on a giant bull.

Take Care!     Joe
