I have carried full sized double stack autos, compact single stacks in every configuration.  Now, I carry the Ruger LCR 357 in either appendix or ankle - appendix 90% of the time.  I can carry it without modifying what I would wear or need a ton of different holsters.  It is by far the best combination I have used.

G19 or 43 if you want something even smaller or compact

Depends on where you are.

380 is fine for small towns. Put a rifle in your vehicle if you want more firepower.

Seattle would be Glock 19 with a couple 30 rounders in a bag plus a 44 for backup. Also some bear spray and a tear gas grenade. Totally serious.

I think that's the way we're going. I've been content with my wife carrying a 5 shot revolver due to the simplicity of it for years. I think I need to convince her to start lugging a semi auto and practicing magazine exchanges.

I was never a Glock fan either, but then I tried the Glock 43 (9mm), and I carry it all the time now.  Very concealable, so I actually carry it, and it shoots very accurately (in my opinion).

Good luck.  The world is in fact getting crazy.  Better to err on the side of having a good carry gun, and knowing how to use it well.
