Entiat late archery

In Need a little input from Entiat veterans. Although I have been over there in the late season taking pics of deer and know that this archery hunt is highly dependent on snowy weather to push the migrantory deer down low. I'm not 100% sure on road  system of the unit.only been ups few roads out of the Entiat River side.  I see that the unit goes clear over to the chelan area and there is some access from that side. I will be doing a good amount of scouting prior to the hunt Nov 21-30 to learn access points and the layof the land and such. My question would be" is one side (Entiat Rd) or the other side ( Chelan ) the better side for access.  My plan is to learn the area system as best I can this summer and as the season draws near late October, early Nov do scouting trips to find concentrations of the does and keep notes from there as this is a rut hunt and finding the does usually means the Bucks will soon be close by. Any insite and infor will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure of the access as the USFS has some closures. Should be a good hunt. Saw a monster taken by a client of Icicle Outfitters that guided a guy to a dandy.

I hunted there in 2000 when it was still a general season hunt.  I accessed from the Entiat Road side with no issues.  There are a couple of roads that head up into the area. No issues meaning the roads were easy to follow and I didn't get lost.  The roads can get slick with mud and ice so be prepared for that.  October is good to learn the roads.  You could do that in a weekend easy enough.  I would go back just for weekends in November and see where the deer are starting to hang out.  Come the 21st hit it hard and get after it everyday, you never know when the big guy is going to show up and present a shot.

Yep, my plan is to take the whole season off to hunt except for thanksgiving day with the family. Very aware of how slick it can get over there. Full set  of chains for the truck. Is it legal to drive side by sides on the forest service roads there? Have access to one, would rather take that up in some of those canyons than a big truck. Getting up on the ridges and glassing canyons looking for the Bucks is the plan. Have no problem getting away from the roads to find the critters.

You can take side by sides as long as they are street legal, with license plate, etc.

3 words for you---cold-cold- and colder....we drew it one year and dealt with 15" of snow and 8 degree temperatures.  we got pretty good and fast at putting 4 chains on the truck.  saw a lot of real nice deer although we couldn't get close enough to put an arrow in one.  best thing we did was book a hotel room in town that had a pool/sauna so we were able to thaw out at night.  ended up taking a couple deer but not the bucks we were hoping for...good luck and hope you stick a pig

A couple of years ago I was at the Entiat late season. Across a canyon from me, a fellow on a wheeler was putt putting along a logging road. He would go a few hundred yards, stop the wheeler and glass my side of the canyon. Directly above him, a nice buck would look down to watch the wheeler. When the guy would move, the deer would run along staying 100 yards or so higher. The deer was happy as long as he could see the guy on the wheeler....wish I had a video. I watched them eventually go past several drainages, staying in the same pattern until they went out of my sight.

Lesson? Them Deer know to keep track of camo clad guys on wheelers. Just sayin'.

This could be the buck that Skyvalhunter mentioned.  You don't really need a guide to be successful in GMU 247 but 4x4 with chains is helpful.  It is a great idea to learn the roads and the country during the summer or early season before the big boys arrive.

Had the tag 4 or 5 years ago. We got about 12 inches opening day. Good but it took a while for good bucks to come down. Roads were really bad. Make sure you have chains.
     We were on a road chained on all four and came to a bad spot in the road  where it leand to the down side, to the open drainage going down. No trees  and started sliding off, we stopped at the edge. It was the last time we went on that road.
  Keep your head in it till the end.    I killed a decent buck  on the second to the last day of the hunt. Fun hunt.    Enjoy.  O yea make sure u have snow camo. Would not have killed if I did not have it.
