Well, the time has come and I am going to be picking up my new pup in about a month. She is a GSP and I am looking for ideas for her name. Fire away!

"She" would be female.

Also, I would like to keep the name short (1 syllable) or be able to shorten it. For example, my last dog was Lexie, Lex for short. Thanks!

This my sound stupid, but in the last few years I let the animal me itself. The individual mannerisms, of each animal will lead you to an appropriate name. Ya it sounds silly, but it seems to work for me and my family. JMTCW

Hilltop, that doesn't sound stupid at all and I agree with your method. I like to develop a list and then see which name fits based upon their personality. Always fun to see what other people come up with, there are some creative names out there.

When we picked up our chocolate lab from Ireland Farms...we had a name in mind... Cedar...just so happens we met up in North bend...pick our dog out of two...realized after driving away...we made our choice under a Cedar tree...it all comes together...just make sure it is something you want to hear for a very long time. Have fun and congrats.

Ironically, I have Zoe on the list. Also Scout, Taz, Cash, Jett, and Gauge. I really like the name Sage but one of hunting buddies already has a dog by that name. Still taking ideas though as nothing is set in stone. I likely won't actually name her until I have her for awhile and then which name from the list is most fitting.
