It is illegal to kill spotted kittens or cougars accompanied by spotted kittens. That cougar is off limits for a while until the little one grows up

Looks like a female with last years kitten, no law against shooting a collared cat, but shooting a big tom would be one worth mounting, a friend shot a big male that was collared a few years ago that had a collar and tag attached stating don't consume the meat as it had just been collared.

When I first joined this site I remember a hilarious post containing a picture of a "bobcat" sitting on a road. Seems like a good time to resurrect that thread

Not even the Federal Bureau of cover ups could resurrect it.

This is a bobcat.FWIW on topic, some young adult cougars still have small or faint spots on the inside of upper legs long after they are on their own away from the mother. You might notice them on a treed cat but not likely on a called one. Anybody know how the game dept. rules on such animals?
Now that's a bobcat!!! Awesome Jackelope!

That is no more bobcat than this is a bobcat and yes I have experience w/someone who swore that there was a bobcat in his back yard (short face/bobbed tail/pointy ears/blotchy color) and it turned out the bobcat looked quite like this one:
