Just curious if any one knows if this is legal.

A few years ago while I was watching a legal buck from Canyon Road, two hunters stop and start watching some other deer on the hillside. After about 10 minutes they spot the buck. They scramble to their trucks and grab their rifles. One guy grabs earmuffs and a tripod. The buck is probally 500 to 600 yards away. The two guys go down to the river and start blazing at this deer. They are shooting across the river, across the railroad tracks and over top of a herd of bighorn sheep. On about the 10th shot they hit the deer in the front leg and it runs over the hill and out of site. This sequence of events made me sick. I don't know if they ever finished the deer off or not but I could find nothing in the game laws that said they broke the law. What are your thoughts?

As far I I know its legal to shoot over a river and railroad tracks. It is also legal to shoot over other animals. Sounds like a poor experience but not illegal.  :twocents:

About the only thing the game regs talk about are shooting across improved roads and powerlines.  :dunno:

The Yakima isn't navigable as far as I know. Well, I guess it would depend on where he was.

I was told by a game warden it is illegal to shoot over, accross or standing on any railroad tracks. I specifically ask about the canyon tracks. :dunno: This was a few years ago. Don't know if the laws have changed but i'll never do it.

My angle on it is this:

They risk getting nailed for intentionally wasting wildlife, if they had no reasonable way to pursue the injured game.
