FOC and over all weight
« on: July 01, 2016, 01:03:03 PM »
How many guys are paying attention to their over all arrow weight and FOC?  I'm looking to make my arrows a little heavier and up my percentage of FOC so I'm considering replacing my aluminum inserts with 50 gr brass or adding the weights you can install with an allen.  Any thoughts?  This will be for elk hunting.

Thanks

How heavy is your arrow now And how well does it shoot?  Also a little more about your set up....draw weight, arrow length ect.

FOC is a big deal to me for down range.  I purchased the archers advantage and worked with some numbers to make sure my spine was good and what my FOC would be if I added certain weights.  Worth the money so you don't end up with to little or to much.  I am at 14% 56 grain up front.  Total weight is 517

I have spent the last few month finding the right FOC for the arrows i shoot .by just going to a 125 gr broad head puts me at 12.50% which was a big difference in arrow flight .

Once I reach the legal limit on Washington's stupid grain weight rule I forget about total arrow weight.  But I do pay plenty of attention to FOC.  12-14% is always my goal on FOC.  Often hard to hit with WA legal arrows and standard factory inserts.  Most of the time I make my own from brass to reach my FOC goals.

Be careful with the screw in allen head weight systems.  Those are not made for just any insert.  Most inserts are made with just enough room for an AMO/ATA standard thread point.  Screwing a weight in those inserts will not leave enough room for your points.

He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I run 20gr behind my ti-con 125's &  with a 11.5 insert the goldtip pro is 461gr total so I'm just over 12.6% foc & ready to put the smackdown on some critters

I bumped up to 300 spine arrows and put 50g inserts behind 125gn heads. Right around 16% foc.

I ad 20 grains into my gold tip 340s with 100 grain bh. gets me about 15% and about 5 grains to spare on legal weight . but if I was five under id not worry for a second ,
