Any input on these rigs?
« on: July 07, 2016, 06:37:25 AM »
2005-2007 sequoia
       Or
2007  Ford Expedition

Any advice on either rig?
We need 3rd row. We have a 4Runner and love it, on our second one. That being said, we like Toyota. I kinda like the ford , wife likes Toyota. Toyota is  probably better but thought I'd ask your opinions

Not sure what ford gets for mpg exactly , haven't looked close enough at those yet
Toyota will get 18 ish. I can live with that

We are not a mini van family, but we need more seats. At times my wife can't leave home cause of not enough seating for kids. Most of the time our vacations involve mountains , dirt roads or beach. Have a 21' Hewes craft.

My sister has the Sequoia in that vintage. It will seat 7 adults fairly comfortably. I was surprised. Obviously not a lot of storage room with a full house. Rides nice as well.

Don't know much about the Toyota, although if a full sized V8 SUV actually gets 18mpg I'll be shocked.

The Expeditions are ok. You'll have ignition coil issues probably at some point, and quite possibly more than once. Each cylinder has it's own coil on plug ignition and the coils fail from time to time. Not a super expensive repair. It's a super common issue in that vintage Ford v8. We do ball joints on them now and then also. Occasional wheel bearing issues. Really they're not too bad.

Have you considered an outback? They tend to be great for what it seems you are using it for and get better gas than the ford and Toyota models you are considering.

If room for seats is a problem the Honda Pilot seats 8 and better MPG the the two listed above.

I actually just saw a newer pilot and wondered about that.

An Outback with 3rd row seating? I didn't think that was an option...

A diesel expedition might do better milage wise but there was a year that international was pumping out the power strokes to beat the new emission standards. I've heard bad things about that year of engine, head bolts shearing off, things like that.
My interpretation of the rules are open to interpretation.

My wife didn't want a mini van but needed the third row seating so we ended up getting a 2016 Honda Pilot.

No such thing in the US as a diesel expedition.
Maybe an Excursion you're thinking about?
