Toyota Highlander has third row seating too but not sure how good it tows. We've been looking into one for after number two arrives.

A diesel expedition might do better milage wise but there was a year that international was pumping out the power strokes to beat the new emission standards. I've heard bad things about that year of engine, head bolts shearing off, things like that.

No such thing in the US as a diesel expedition.
Maybe an Excursion you're thinking about?

Check out some of the newer Toyota 4 runners, 2010+
The ones I looked at had the 3rd row seating.

An Outback with 3rd row seating? I didn't think that was an option...

Looks like I was mistaken. I own a cross-trek and judging by the size difference assumed that the outback would have 3 row seating as an option, but I was wrong. If you want to go Subaru you'd have to go with the Tribeca, which to me looks better than a minivan but probably isn't quite what you are looking for either.

We had a Dodge Durango that we put 280K on before we traded it for a Murano.

If you need third row, I would buy a new body style Durango (cant stand the 05-09 body style) a Honda MDX or a Honda Pilot.

Everyone I know who has either Honda loves them.

If room for seats is a problem the Honda Pilot seats 8 and better MPG the the two listed above.

I actually just saw a newer pilot and wondered about that.

We had a pilot for several years wife and I  loved it till the day we traded it in but we wanted to go back to a sedan since we no longer needed the extra seating. the 4 wheel drive was nice and the vtec v6 has decent power. We had an 03 but the newer models have so many features.

We got one when we had a second kid. The third row is a joke. Horribly uncomfortable. We got by for several years with it, but it's not made for an adult that is for sure. Never towed with it, but i'm sure it would do a tent trailer tow just fine.

Ford excursion is what I wanted to begin with. I have a 2001 f350, and the family love it . But wife would like something a little smaller and the 7.3 is hard to find

My wife didn't want a mini van but needed the third row seating so we ended up getting a 2016 Honda Pilot.

How did you guys like it?

We would love to get a new one. Saw one today that was tan, looked cool. But right now I am trying for a job change and trying to save some money. Someday when kids are gone, we will get one. We have had a 99 runner and a 08, loved both

We have an 09 Chevy Traverse AWD V6.  Seats 7 (maybe kids or miniature adults).  Comfortably seats 4 adults and semi comfortably seats 2 more adults.  Ok for an hour or so but after that you need to get out and stretch.  If using the 3rd row rear storage space is tight.  Rated to tow over 5,000 lbs.

We have a 14 Explorer that my wife drives and she loves it. It has a 3rd row and as long as the folks  riding in the backseat can handle getting back there, it's pretty comfy for adults. I don't think it's a place for elderly folks to try and get into, but it's a nice car with lots of room, and the newer Explorers have been pretty trouble free.  You might be able to find a 2011 or 2012 at a reasonable price. It would likely still be a little more $$ than an 07 Expedition.

Get over the mini van phobia.  They are good rigs.  Wife didn't want one either.  Well we bought it and now she adores it.  They are really versatile comfy nice driving rigs.  Heck I even like it.
MAGA!  Again..

I agree that minivans can be great vehicles, but if it's not the style you want, don't get it. If you are gonna dish out the dough for a new vehicle get the one you absolutely want.
