I hate minivans but if something happened to my current family  rig I'd buy one. Since you already own a truck I think you should consider it... the way to buy a minivan is from rental companies. You get them low milage, maintained and unlike a jeep or sports car no one is going to be rallying around in them. They get great milage and can fit a pile of kids and gear in them.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Get over the mini van phobia.  They are good rigs.  Wife didn't want one either.  Well we bought it and now she adores it.  They are really versatile comfy nice driving rigs.  Heck I even like it.

Wouldn't want to take it on beach, we go 4-5 times a year
We are in Mt a lot, never know what or where you might want to do
Can't pull boat or a trailer full of 4wheelers
I will say a van is probably the best car for most families , just not mine. Nothing against them , just how it is

Actually they are front engine front wheel drive and they get around in snow, mud etc. very good.  Off road no its not a truck.  Seems to me you will need a truck if that's the goal.  Get quad cab like me. 6 people.  Ours was a business fleet rig.  Like new, maint., and low miles for great $ at the time.

I have a F350 crew cab, we love it. That's why I want a excursion, but can't convince wife. And I can't fit 8 people in it like I could with some suv

Suburban,  my opinion  :chuckle:

:yeah: I buy low mileage suburbans for hunting rigs, I own 3 currently, one 1500 and two 2500, if you get an older 2500 (98-2005ish) with the 7.4 they drink some fuel 10-12 mpg, but they are cheap to buy, cheap to insure without comp on the insurance, they will usually last 200,000-300,000 miles, and you get heavier duty running gear in the 2500 with fewer problems than the 1500. That 7.4 engine seems to outlast the smaller engines. They have third row seating and when you figure lower cost on everything else you can afford to pay a little more for fuel and it will pull your boat real well. If you look around you can find them with less than 100,00 miles! :twocents:

It's probably about a 14 hr drive from wetside WA to Brigham Utah.

I buy a lot of stuff off this website in Utah. This is only a 1500 Suburban with the smaller engine, it should get about 14 -17 mpg but probably won't last quite as long as a 2500 with a 7.4, but very low miles (89,000), so probably a very good deal. If you keep watching this website eventually there will be a good deal on a 2500. Last winter I bought a 2005 Dodge Cummins with only 48,000 miles off those classifieds.

We've had a Sequoia a few years earlier than the model you're looking at. LOVE IT. I've owned a few Yodas with the 2UZ-FE engine and as spastic and incompetent as I am, I haven't managed to kill one of those vehicles. Yes, the Sequoia gets much, much worse gas mileage than the tundra, probably due to weight (?) :dunno: Those early 2000s Tundras will pull 16-18mpg and the Sequoias about 11-12 if its in the city. A few coworkers with a Suburban report similar fuel economy. I think we got 16ish in the Sequoia on a road trip. I sat in every chair in the vehicle for more than a moment and found them all to be comfortable. If you want to save some money up front and spend a lot of money and hassle fixing mechanical and electrical problems, go with the Suburban. If you want to spend a little more up front and not have to mess with it, go with the Sequoia. I've always managed to save a few grand by buying when gas prices are high, as they're harder to sell in those days  :IBCOOL:

M brother had an expedition for 9 years and complained about crap mileage every day wishing he bought the excursion every time. It was a great rig, piled up 200k did a lot of trailer towing and taking the family all around. Toyotas are great but all the v-8 rigs get horrid gas mileage. A friend has a Lexus with a v 8 since new and now has nearly 300k miles. Some little stuff. Typical Toyota big brakes always go out and such... And 11 mpg... My f 350 gets 15-19 ... And the brakes last forever

What do the Excursions and Expeditions get?

I'm fortunate to be able to afford the gas bill. Everything in the world that matters to me is in that vehicle and I have zero doubts about whether a markedly safer vehicle could be found to survive all the drunks and texting idiots  :bash:

Gas oil change and maintenance will save you the difference in cost

Excursion diesel 15-18.

:yike: That the 7.3 'Phool was talking about above? What do those run 10-12 years old on the used market? I paid $8,500 for our Sequoia  :)
