Didn't think I'd be coming back home with a cougar over an elk, but I did!
Had an elk caller 80 yards behind me on an old road on a steep timbered hill side. I saw movement about 60 yards down the road, and from the color I thought at first it was cattle.
It then fully came into view and it was clearly a cat. First one I had ever seen in the wild. I drew my bow when it was at about 40 yards, waited until 20 and let an arrow fly.
I heard it hit solid. It let out whatever sound that you would call it, roar/scream, and jumped up the hill side and vanished into the brush.
I got back to my dad and buddy, who of course thought I shot a bull. We gave it a little time and went up to find my arrow broke off around the vanes with a little hair. No blood on the ground. Hiked up the hill and found her piled up about 40 yards from where she was hit.
The RAD ti-con went in thru front shoulder and came out in the intestine area. Broadhead is in perfect shape still!
Measured 6'11" from nose to tail. Got the cat certified by fish and game and dropped off at the taxi for a full body mount!
