Just pick up a marlin guide gun . Do you guys use them for dear hunting ? If so what factory loads do you recommend?

I used mine mostly as a brush gun for bear but it would work good for anything else. I just used hornady lever evaloution factory loads and they performed really good.

The hornady Leverevolution loads are hard to beat for deer. The bullets are a little softer than I like for bigger stuff though. CorBon and buffalo bore make some great heavy bullet loads as well.

I love the Marlin guide guns, but I don't have one any more. I've had the 444 Marlin, 45/70 and the 450 Marlin. The 450 was my favorite but not for any good reason.

Leverevolution shoots great out of all my marlins.   It is a deer flattener...and I would have no problem shooting a bear with it too.  OH WAIT!!!  I have and it flattened the bear too.

I have a older Marlin.  With Factory 405 gr it is a tack driver at 100 yards open sites.  The 300 grain factory loads shoots more random than a drunk blonde college girl on a Friday night.  I have not tried Levolutions in it but I think I might have to try them.

I was unfortunate in that my Marlin 336 hated lever evolution stuff. Different gun/round I know but just something to consider.

My Marlin loves the Leverevoltuion.  I topped it with a Cabrlas Pine ridge scope with the Leverevolution elevation drop.  Surprisingly accurate at 1,2, and 300 reticles

Skinner rear Peep Sight, with Fiber Optic Fire Sight up front...

The 325 gr. LR should be sufficient for elk. 

Attached is a picture of my 1895 GS for you Marlin 45-70 fans.  It has a WWG big loop lever and trigger and the sights are the XS ghost ring and post.

I typically use a 300 grain jhp at 1900-2000 fps.  Good with xs peep sights to about 175.

Never owned one but borrowed and loaded for a buddies guide gun. The lever lution stuff is great on deer and medium bear. I would get something ruder for elk though.

Leverrevolution is some good, flat stuff.  If you want the real bruiser load look at buffalo bore.  I haven't shot a critter with it, but man does it knock the snot out of alder trees.

The only 45/70 brush gun I have is a 47/70 BFR. it's nice working the brush with a gun you can holster and not hang up on brush.  Would like to find a good on a Marlin though.  Also I don't use factory loads.

Man, I miss my BFR! 440gr hard cast lead at 1600 fps from a 10" barrel will get your attention. I still have a tingling sensation in two fingers on my right hand from that gun....

I have used both the Leverrevlution works great in my Marlin 1895 GSS with low-power glass on top. One shot on a black bear at 45 yards. Some of the BC guides I know also use the Marlin 1895 GSS with the buffalo bore (405 grains) as backup and for Griz.

You'll have to try my S/W .500 4"bbl with a 700gr cast load. Only load I have to use a glove.

Another one topped with see through mounts and an older Redfield Widefield 2x7. It likes the Hornadys and Buffalos, but it really likes the hard cast Garretts that I still have from when they were a local cartridge company, it will be a sad day when I rack that last one through.

I feed mine a steady diet of hornady 350g flat points in front of 50g of h4198. I love it, probably my favorite firearm I own right now.
I skipped the scope and went with a peep sight setup, sometimes I find myself wanting a quick release 2x7 or something for it, but it works so good as it sits I haven't acted yet.

I'm going to stick with the sights the are on it . And I'm going to use the Hornady 325 for deer got some for bear season
