Fossil creek elk hunt permit/ gate key gmu 506 Elk hunt archery. Wondering how many archery people payed the $420 this year to hunt bulls in the fossil creek area in GMU 506?

420$ for a rag horn 4pt bull .. Probably not a lot but from past expierence when it was much cheaper half the people up there didn't even have permits. Then you had people with permits playing security. Not to mention they don't patrol it an half the time the gates left open. I'd take my 420$ an apply it to hunting out of state.

I'm not saying there isn't bigger. There are but I've seen just as many and bigger elk other places. To the price is steep when your required to stay away from active logging areas. An like I said they don't monitor it well at all.. I know this because I've been around that area for quite a while. I bought into there program a few years when it was about half that price as it is now. An have come to reality that the fact is they will keep raising the price until eventually they don't sell out. I understand for some people it's a great access opportunity and for older people but the price increase and they way it's managed is out of balance. 420$ is just about enough to for another license an tag in another state.  Just my 2 cents. I understand everyone has there limitations and what not. So for those who did purchase it.. All the power to you. But it'll be more an more every year.

I bought in and will be archery hunting along side you in Sept.  I do agree with clearcuts comments.  Not a quality hunt!  Fairly low archery pressure but a lot of traffic. (Logging, scouting etc...I have hunted fossil Creek every year since 1977, mostly rifle.  Started archery but am close to reaching my breaking point.  Raise price every year and have now started adding additional permits.  Good luck scoutdog!!!

We r the camp that has that blue sign says "4 Quarters" have u seen us?  Stop in some time. This will b our 3rd year in a ro now.

I think we've met.  Look forward to another good season.  Hopefully folks obey the walk-in area signs.  We  used to o camp in your spot but moved up off the 7100.

Ya what kills me is the few road that remain un-gated that allow you to go from fossil creek and Weyco land. 3 years ago is the last time I coughed up the $ to go in and there was Weyco permit holders coming into the area.. But who knows maybe it's gated now.

Ol smokey-- sounds like you've been there much longer than me as I wasn't even born in 77 but I have been down that way all my hunting life an then some..
Did you always archery hunt or swap from rifle at some point?

I haven't harvested enough elk to NOT be willing to harvest rag horns or im not good enough to exercise the luxury to pass up a rag horn...maybe some day i will be at the level of skill but not now yet I've only been bow hunting for 10years, plus 15 years of MF b4 that and 9 years of every day BBgun twetty bird hunting b4 that...lol. Idk if i will ever pass up a rag horn unless i have a spechel perm./quality bull tag in a gmu i know i can do better in.
