Tanned Beaver tails
« on: July 12, 2016, 05:09:24 AM »
Turned out really nice, very soft.  Going to make some wallets, card holders, knife sheaths, etc...

How exactly did you tan them? I bought some of the deer tanning solution that comes in the orange bottle and tanned up one tail a few weeks ago to make a wallet and it wasn't as soft as I was hoping for. I am totally new to this and may have done things wrong but I went by the instructions on the bottle.  :dunno:
Good job anyhow! That's a lot of work to tan that many tails.

I sent them to Specialty Leathers.  They tanned them for $6.50 per side.  I just skinned, fleshed and dried them.  They have several colors to choose from.  I wished I would have had a few more done in the burgundy, turned out really nice as did the dark walnut color.

Love the look of those tails.  Seems like there's lots of cool things can be made out of them.

Those are awesome.  You'll have to share some of the items you make up.

Those are wicked. Can't wait to see what you make with them. Gun belt? Knife sheath?
