Herters Rifle???

So my friend with the 35 Whelen also has a Herters Rifle U-9 in .243 Win. It is stamped made in England. It has the original scope on it too. Its in mint condition. I do not have a gun guide for values, any idea on what something like this is worth?
I may pick it up too if not too expensive.

I had some time and am doing some research on another rifle and I found what that rifle might be. Another gentleman on another forum id' done just like the one your friend has it is a BSA made in England.  Very fine rifles high quality and accurate.  Go to "Shooters forum" and do a search for "Herters U9".  Then you can do a search for the price of those rifles

Buy it!  A U9 is a nice rifle.

After some research, it appears they can go from $250 - $750 in price depending condition and model. So this one appears to be the base model, in great condition. I am leery though, I don't know who would work on this gun if it has issues? If it has a great barrel and rifling is sound then perhaps its worth $500? The scopes appear to worth $25.

So I guess when I get my hands on it and look it all over I will make him an offer.

Is it a factory produced rifle or is it a U9 action that was built up.   You used to be able to buy the actions as well as a barrel and stock at the Herters in Lacey and go home and put it together.

The Herter's/BSA U-9 action is a pretty nice action.  Numrich  has parts for the gun and any GOOD gunsmith should have no problem with working on it as it is just a basic bolt action.  There were a couple of variations, one you pull the trigger back to release the bolt and the other you push it forward to release the bolt for removal.

Well I picked it up today. I gave him $200 for it. It has nice metal, the action works, its been sitting in a safe for 15 years. The wood has a few light stain marks, but other than that it appears to be fully functional. Oh I got 7 boxes of Remington, Federal, and Winchester ammo to go with it!

So I will scrub it down and see what it does at the range???

Well I am excited to see how it shoots, it has a 24" barrel. The scope is the original on that came with it when purchased, its something I would take off and keep so it can be a package but its not worth hunting with.

I hit the Tacoma Sportsmanship club this afternoon to see what this thing could do! I got 7 boxes of ammo with it when purchased, all 100 grain bullets. The core Lokts shot best at 1 1/8" group, the federals came in next at 1 1/2" and the Winchester PP were at 1 7/8" group. Nice shooting rifle with not much effort. So I am going to use it in WY on antelope! Should be fun!
