If elk are on the menu I'd choose a 270 or above. Roosevelt bull elk are pretty big animals, and Murphy's law has a tendency to show up when your hunting. If its the last day of your hunt and a "texas heart shot" is your only opportunity on a big bull, the bigger the better - IMHO.
