Arrow issues
« on: July 17, 2016, 01:03:40 PM »
Hey all I recently switched from Easton Fmj to Carbon Express maxima reds. I was going to buy more fmj's however, I was guided to the maxima reds.  My issue is two fold, I notice the maxima seems to have a significant drop at 50/60 yards and my groups are way off. I then shot my Fmj without issue. I am shooting a z7 extreme at 70#. Fmj is 340 with 125 tip and maxima is 350 with 125. Any thoughts before I sell these maxima's?

Are they fletched any differently? Also, are there different types of inserts?

I think you need a stiffer spine arrow, at 70#, 29"DL and 125gr heads your on the verge of going to 300s
Your fmjs are 11.3 gpi
The maximas are 9.07 gpi
try a 100gr head

No reason to sell maximas
You just need to adjust bow.
The reds only have 2 choices the 250s & 350a they cover all your different spines.
They fly different because they are totally different arrows.
The reds are great arrows

Your fmj arrows weigh quite abit more than the reds which would result in different points of impact

Ok I guess it's a good excuse to buy some vipertricks!

What adjustments should I make on my bow?

Just realized the 100gr head will probably help your foc but you'll likely be below the 6grns per lb for legal hunting so you might also have to turn down your poundage.

I would think your FOC would decrease with the drop in point weight, but stiffening the spine may cure the problem. Its odd that the lighter arrow is dropping more.

Adjust sight.
And yes you will be too light for legal weight at 70#

Drop to 65# and change to a 100 gr head and you should be ready to rock with your maxima red. Your z7 will still be plenty fast and pack a punch at 65#. And when it's cold and your adrenaline is pumping that 5# less will be easier to pull back smoothly. Good luck

You definitely need new arrows and should sell the reds to me at a drastically reduced price.

Sell the Maximas and go back to FMJ's, better arrow IMO.

Not to thread jack but I have 7 29in maxima red finished weight of 308 without tip. If anyone wants them, best offer over $40 can have them.

Good price and right length, but these are not Red's.

I think if you do some tuning you are going to like the Red's. I switched over last year and after getting them tuned to my bow, I really like them. Only thing I don't like is they seem to be fairly brittle and easy to break and fletching them is a pain. Only glue I can get to hold is AAE Max Bond.

Yup lighter arrow has a higher foc, which can cause a drop at distance.

Do the fmj's and the reds have the same diameter,  if they are larger diameter than u will need to adjust your rest down
