The smallest wood stove available..?
« on: July 18, 2016, 05:21:40 PM »
I have a tiny sailboat, and am looking for the smallest functional wood stove that I can put in my boat to take the edge off at night and in the mornings.

I figure I want to go super small, and will probably just burn a handful of insta-light charcoal or small presto log chunks, and skip using wood, so, I am literally looking for the smallest functional wood stove that I can find.

First one that comes to mind is the solid fuel heater by  Dickenson, but the flue height needs to be 4' which might be a challenge...

http://dickinsonmarine.com/product/newport-solid-fuel-heater/

Next is navigator stove works, but those are too spendy

The stainless Dickenson might be the route I go, just because it is stainless, but what else is out there, cast iron or otherwise?
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright

After getting frustrated with the results I've been getting in my search, I decided to look at pack stoves........

Kifaru parastove....  :yike:

Anything smaller than this one?

I'm thinking the parastove with a 3 inch stack robber,

This is for a 20 foot sailboat, so, again, tiny boat. Probably one of the smallest to have a wood burning stove.

I'd go to antique shops and look for cast iron stoves there. Go to a maritime locality. I dunno.
See tiny cast iron woods stoves that I reckon are made for boats all the time in port Townsend.

Also check Seek Outside. I have their med stove for my Redcliff. Small but puts off the heat.

My brother has a Dickerson stove. He actually uses it in his apartment above his shop not in a boat. It's cool but more of a novelty  than anything else. Requires a lot of feeding of fuel. May not be as bad in a boat but when he fires it up he is constantly feeding it.

Chwck out this company, they make wood and propane heaters for ice fishing shacks, small and reasonable priced.  I spent many night fishing in a T-shirt on the ice in MN with one of these in the shack,

Here's another small stove I ran across.

If you have 12v battery for lights here's a dandy LITTLE furnace that also comes with fittings for boat installation.  I just installed one in my commercial ford van for hunting season.  It fits behind the passengers seat it is so small and draws very little power or fuel, I'll be able to heat for about 18-20 hrs on a single charge of a 70ah battery.  It is more spendy than a NuWay.

I tried a cat heater for a number of years but they put out so much moisture that everything in the van had a damp feeling after a few days and the water would just run off the inside of the window just using it to heat for an hour or so in the AM to dress and eat.
