anyone know a local (WA, ID, Or) Shotgun Smith
« on: July 19, 2016, 07:02:57 AM »
Trap gun needs a rebuild, I can send it to Browning and its gone for 6 months.  Other vendors are all in the Midwest.  Anyone know a shotgun smith in the NW?

Thanks

What need to be done? Unless it's a total rebuild I do my own and carry spare parts with me on shoots out of state. The one time (Feb 2016 Las Vegas)  I did not take my part kit I had the lower firing pin go south on me. All parts are available from Brownell's or Midway, one of the joys of owning a Browning.

Its a total high mileage rebuild.  I do a fair amount of my own work, but I think it needs a weld job.  Its a late 70's 32" BT99.  Lever is creeping, lock up is weak.  It has not opened up on me yet, but I don't want to get o that point.

I looked at just replacing it, but the new 99's are junk, the 725's are pricey and this one has sentimental value and the stock was fitted to me.  My kid shoots a Citori and I think it feels like a brick. (he loves it)

My Dad had a old superposed trap rebuild by Browning it came back like factory new.  It just took forever.  ATA season it about done, I guess I will just ship it off, and it should be back before the spring shoots

Who's the guy in Tacoma I've heard Walt talk about? Can't remember his name.

@CP Maybe you know his name?

Mike Nelson is great.  I use him exclusively, I can walk down the street to his house in ten minutes too.

Mike Nelson is great, he fixed my old Broadway when it fired at closing. I'm shooting a 525 right now after wearing out two Citori's and two BT-99s on trap and switched to a Beretta 680 SX. The 525 is for Sporting Clays will need a total rebuild soon.

Another vote for Mike. He did some choke and action work on an old Model 12 for me several years ago, Great work, good price, and a nice guy.

Mike won't take on work he is not equipped to do (it was rare, but on occasion Mike has sent me elsewhere).  If he takes on the job it will be done right.
